So the lawyers went after his great-aunt Luella.

Let me be very clear in that Luella was just a little old lady who lent some money to her great nephew to buy a car. She wasn't there the night of the accident and had no idea that her nephew was even capable of doing such a thing.

However the courts found her liable and she received a $950,000 judgment against her. The court then froze all her personal assets. That judgment of $950,000 was more than all her assets put together and she had no way to pay it.

So she hired another set of lawyers to appeal the case. Fortunately this time she won the case and the judgment was finally removed. This was great news for sure and she was glad it was over.
